Gauthier

Denise Gauthier (c1622-1695) was a native of the parish of St-Marguérite in the port of La Rochelle; there she married her first husband, Léonard Pilote, in May 1644. The names of their parents do not appear in the marriage record. Léonard apprently came alone to Québec in 1656 on the ship Le Taureau; Denise came later, in 1660, bringing with them their young daughter Marguérite (1655, baptized at St-Nicolas in La Rochelle; married Jean Drouard), and their son Jean (see below). A second son, Pierre (married Marie-Jeanne Brassard) was born in Nouvelle-France. The family lived in the parish of Nôtre-Dame des Anges in Beauport (above, as it looks today). After Léonard died in 1665, Denise married (February 1667) Robert Lefèbvre, who was a servant at the seminary in nearby Québec city. They appear to have had no children, and were living in Québec city in 1680; Denise died there in 1695.

The census of 1667 says that Denise was 45 (born 1622?) but the census of 1681 says she was 60 (1621?).

Our ancestor Jean Pilote married Marie-Françoise Gaudry in June 1678; see Pilote.
