Godillion

also Godillon

Élisabeth Godillion was baptized April 2, 1649 in the church of St-Nicolas (pictured above) in Blois. Her parents were Nicolas (or perhaps Jean) Godillion or Godillon and Marie Boulay. The Godillions appear to have lived in the parish of Nôtre-Dame des Aides, but there was also a marriage of Jean Godillion and Marie Boulay in the church of St-Saturnin in 1642. Was Marie perhaps married to two brothers in succession? There is no definite record of the marriage with Nicolas.

In any case, they did not come to Québec; their only known child, Élisabeth, was a "fille du roi" who arrived in 1670 and was married almost immediately to Léonard Éthier, a shoemaker, also recently arrived. The marriage record indicates that she was unable to sign her name. She died in January 1715 at Lachenaie. The 1681 census shows the family living in that village and owning a gun, four "horned animals" and ten arpents of land - and strangely, it says her last name was "Faudeloy" - I am guessing this is an error for "fille du roi." See Éthier for their descendants.
