Some sources claim that our ancestor Pierre Miville married Charlotte Maugis before he left his home in Fribourg (Switzerland) to settle in La Rochelle. However, a 1607 baptismal record for Charlotte can be found in the church of St-Germain, Marencennes, near Rochefort. She married Pierre Miville (no doubt in Rochefort) in 1629, and came with him and their children to Canada in 1649. She died in Lauzon in October 1676.

Charlotte's father was named Alphonse Maugis, and his wife was Louise de Marle. (She came from Montfort in the diocese of Chartres, some hundred miles to the northeast). We know of no other children besides Charlotte. Possibly Alphonse was not originally from Marencennes; he may have been a soldier like his son-in-law.
