Yet another La Rochelle family. Léonard Pilote and his wife Denise Gauthier lived in the parish of St-Nicolas. They were probably both born about 1620, but we have no record of their parents' names. Léonard apprently came alone to Québec in 1656 on the ship Le Taureau; Denise came later, in 1660, bringing with them their young daughter Marguérite (1655, baptized at St-Nicolas in La Rochelle; married Jean Drouard), and their son Jean (see below). A second son, Pierre (married Marie-Jeanne Brassard) was born in Nouvelle-France. The family lived in the parish of Nôtre-Dame des Anges in Beauport. After Léonard died in 1665, Denise married (February 1667) Robert Lefèbvre, who was a servant at the seminary in nearby Québec city. They appear to have had no children, and were living in Québec city in 1680; Denise died there in 1695. Jean Pilote (1657?-a1714) married Marie-Françoise Gaudry in June 1678 at Québec city. They were the parents of fourteen children, all but the first born at Lauzon: Marie-Agnès (1680, married Pierre Hédouin in 1698 and Noël Lareau in 1712); Jean (1681-1749, married Catherine Brassard); Marguérite (1683-1722, married François Lambert dit Champagne, see below); Pierre (1686?-p1730, married Louise Chalifou); André (1687); Marie-Françoise (1688-1694); Ignace (1690-1700); Madeleine (1692?, married Michel Marié, a nephew of our ancestor Thomas Marié); Louise-Charlotte (1694?, married Michel Richer dit Laflèche and Robert Houy dit Saint-Laurent); Jeanne-Françoise (1696, married Jean-Baptiste Richer dit Laflèche); Joseph (1699, married Marie-Barbe Rancourt); Marie-Anne (1701, married Antoine Tremblay); Charles (1703, married Ursule Tremblay); and Jacques, his twin, who must have died young because there is no further record of him. François Lambert and Marguérite were the parents of Marie-Josèphte Lambert, who married Nicolas Boucher and was a great-great-grandmother of Louise Boucher Martin. The photo shows the Tour St-Nicolas that guards La Rochelle's
harbor entrance. |
