Madeleine
Auvray, a fille du roi, was born (like many other ancestors of
ours) in the parish of St-Vivien in Rouen. Her parents, Antoine Auvray
and Marie LeNormand, were married there on August 22, 1649, and Madeleine
was probably born in 1650 or 1652. She was in Québec by 1671, when
she married Nicolas Matte on October 12.
She died on May 6, 1734 at Neuville. This town is on the St Lawrence, just
upstream from the capital. The church, St-François-de-Sales, is pictured
above; it was built just about the time Madeleine died. |
