Jeanne Bitouset was born in the parish of St-Étienne du Mont (above) in Paris, daughter of Antoine Bitouset and Nicole Dupont or Duport. They were married in Paris, and Jeanne was born there about 1636; but we do not have any evidence that they emigrated to Nouvelle-France. On the other hand, Jeanne appears on no lists of "filles du roi," and she was a bit too old to have been one anyway; so it is a mystery how she crossed the Atlantic.

She married Louis Guimond in February 1653; we are descended from their son Claude (see Guimond). After Louis' death she married Jean Baret or Barette in 1661, and had four further children (François, Jeanne, Marie-Madeleine and Pierre Baret).
