Clément Bouchard (born 1610, mother's name was Marie Guerreau) and his wife Louise Clémence Bressard or Brillard lived in Antille-le-Marois (now usually spelled Andilly-les-Marais), near La Rochelle. They were married in October 1632 at the church of St-Nazaire. They had at least four children: Michel (see below); Jean (1640); Françoise (1645), and also Nicolas (1637?-1684), who emigrated with his brother in 1657. Nicolas married Anne Roy and left two daughters, Élisabeth and Angélique, from whom we are not descended. Michel Bouchard was born in Andilly on November 16, 1635, and emigrated to Nouvelle-France in 1657. He settled at Château-Richer, where in December 1662 he married Marie Trottain (daughter of Jean Trottain or Trottin and Madeleine Blanchard). She was sixteen, and also from La Rochelle. They bought a farm at Beaupré; in the 1666 census, they were living there with two small children. Soon afterwards, they moved to a larger place at Rivière-Ouelle. The 1681 census records seven children, and nine arpents under cultivation. Michel died at the Hôtel-Dieu in Québec on April 14, 1709; Marie was dead before 1682. Their children: Étienne (1663-1738, married Madeleine Meunier, one daughter); Marie-Madeleine (1665-1697, had an illegitimate daughter by François Deserre, then married Pierre Dancosse; after he died, she married Jean-François Gauvin); Charles (1667-1690, married Marie-Madeleine Dubé); François (1670-1754, married Marie-Anne Vallière, 7 children); Pierre (1672, died young); Marguérite (1674-1724, had an illegitimate son by Jean Gagnon and then another by Jean Soucy before marrying François Dutartre, two children); Gabriel (1675-1731, married Marie-Françoise Lizot, 4 children); Pierre (1678-1717, married Marie-Madeleine de Laporte and then Marie-Anne Bourassa, 9 children). See Dancosse for Marie-Madeleine's nine children. The image is a postcard of the rue St-Pol in Andilly, circa 1900. No wonder Michel emigrated. |
