Boulay/Boulet

Marie Boulay (c1625-?) is a mystery. When she married Nicolas Godillion in Blois in about 1650, both were residents of the parish of Nôtre-Dame des Aides, but no Boulay family can be identified in that city. A marriage of Jean Godillion with Marie Boulay is also recorded (1642) at the church of St-Saturnin. Did she marry two brothers in succession? Either could be Élisabeth's father, but Nicolas is more likely. There is another Boulay family in Québec, but this family originates in Loisé, in the Perche region of France, and that is about forty miles west of Blois. Mortagne and Tourouvre, also the homes of many immigrants to Québec, are nearby.

Above is part of a 1572 map of Blois.

Marie and Nicolas Godillion were the parents of at least one child, Élisabeth, who was born in 1649 in Blois and was sent to Canada as a "fille du roi" in 1670; she was married almost immediately on arrival to Léonard Éthier (see that page for their descendants).
