Bonaventure Charpentier and his wife Isabelle lived in the St-Sulpice parish (above, photo) of central Paris. Some sources call Isabelle "de Sens," but this is not a surname; it most likely means that she was from Sens, and that when her daughter gave her parents' background at the time of her marriage, she did not know her mother's maiden name. All sources agree that Marie-Reine Charpentier was a "fille du roi," and most place her birth in 1657 or 1658, so she was about 23 when she crossed the Atlantic and married our ancestor Louis Prinseau. The age is based on what she reported to later census-takers. The marriage took place on August 26, 1681. The couple had three daughters (see Prinseau). When Louis died Marie-Reine married Étienne Domingo dit Caraby and had four more daughters: Anne Geneviève (married François Caron); Élisabeth (1683-1733, married Gilles Gaudreau and then Pierre Leblanc dit Grandmaison); Louise Angélique (married Guillaume Chevreuil); and Marie (married Antoine Civadrier). |
