Dufour

Pierre Dufour was born about 1595 in La Rochelle; evidently he was an orphan, because he had a guardian, Claude Moreau (who was a witness at his wedding; perhaps an uncle?). They lived in the parish of St-Barthélemy. He was a master baker, and married Raymonde Tharais or Tharay (died 1652) at the church of Sainte-Marguérite-de-Cogne (above) on July 6, 1609. Her father's name was Guyon Tharais. Sometime after 1617 (in which year Pierre was mentioned again in the Sainte-Marguérite records) they must have converted to Protestantism, as the next two generations of Dufours belonged to the "temple calviniste" in La Rochelle. There were at least six children: one who died before 1619, name unknown; Anne (died 1652 in La Rochelle); Pierre (1610-1611), another Pierre (1613); Françoise (1615); Marie (1618, who married first René Magnan and then Jean Racault); and Madeleine (1619).

Marie Dufour had four children before her first husband died (see Magnan); her second marriage in 1655 took place in the church of St-Barthélemy, so she must have become a Catholic. There was one daughter, Jeanne Racault (1656-1657).
