Favreau

or Faverel

We know nothing about Marie-Françoise Favreau except that she was born in 1644, in the parish of St-Etienne d'Aytré, La Rochelle, and that her parents' names were Vivien Faverel or Favreau and Isabelle Drouen or Drouet. She married Pierre Jean there in late 1671 or early 1672, just before the Jean family embarked for Québec. She died in August 1723 at St-Jean Port Joli, Québec and was buried at nearby L'Islet. Their son Pierre Jean was the great-great-great grandfather of Marie Eva Jean Martin.

The woodcut above represents the town of Aytré in 1628 - it is a small port city, near la Rochelle, founded by Normans in 843 AD. Salt pans and fishing are the main industries. It has a website - if you click on this, an annoying mouse voice will tell you all about Aytré, in French.
