This family is not well documented, and the name is spelled in various ways. All Filteaus and Fecteaus appear to be descended from Robert Filteau and Marguérite Brochet of St-Georges de Montaigu in the diocese of Luçon in Poitou. We know of only one child, Pierre, the immigrant - he was probably born in the 1630s (1639 if the census records are correct), and we do not know when he came to Québec. He married Gillette Savard, daughter of François Savard and Jeanne Moran, on February 22, 1666 at Québec city. Pierre died in 1699, and his wife in 1703. They lived on the Île d'Orléans, in the parish of St-Jean (pictured above). The had fourteen children: Marie (1667, died young); another Marie (1668, died young); Pierre (1669, died young); another Marie (1671, became an Ursuline nun); another Pierre (1673, died young); Nicolas (born in 1673, 11 months after Pierre; married Suzanne Morier and Françoise Mailloux, and died in 1756); a third Pierre, 1675-1693); Suzanne (1667, married Jean Mimeau and died in 1708); Gabriel (1678-1712, married Marguérite Roy, daughter of Gillaume Roy); yet another Pierre (1685, married Marie-Madeleine Roy, daughter of Nicolas Roy); Marguérite (1687, married Yves-François Durocher); Jean-Baptiste (1689-1734, married Marie-Françoise Roy, another daughter of Guillaume); and Joseph (1692, died young). Pierre Filteau and Marie-Madeleine
Roy had at least seventeen children, all born at Beaumont: Marie (1714-1769,
married Louis-Charles Boucher); Pierre (1714, died young); Joseph (1716,
married Marie-Josephte Bigot); Jean-Baptiste (see below); Charles
(1719-1755, married Marie-Madeleine Gagnon); Louis (1720, married Marie-Anne
Huard); Gabriel (1722); Marie-Marthe (1724-1727); Marie-Louise (1726-1727);
François (1728); Étienne (1730-1730); another Étienne
(1731); another Marie-Marthe (1733-1733); yet another Marie-Marthe (1735,
married Pierre Guay); Marguérite (1737, married Joseph Brunel)
and Alexandre (1740). Jean-Baptiste Filteau (1718-1748) married Marie-Marguérite Frechette in (daughter of François Frechette or Frechet and Marguérite Bergeron). They had three daughters: Marie-Madeleine (1744, died young); Marie-Charlotte (1745-1746); and another Marie-Madeleine (see below). Marie-Madeleine Filteau (1747-1821) married first Joseph Couillard dit Beaumont, and had three children. When he died she married Barnabé Dercy or Darcy and had ten further children, including Marie-Agathe, the maternal grandmother of Louise Boucher Martin. See Darcy. |
