Gaudet sometimes Godet |

Jean Gaudet (born about 1585; died 1672 in Port-Royal - the 1671 census says he was 86) and his second wife Nicole Coleson or Colleson (born 1612, maybe in Paris, more likely in Martaize; daughter of Nicolas Coleson and Geneviève Petit; and still living in 1686 in Port-Royal) were among the earliest settlers of Acadia, arriving about 1636 from Martaize or environs. The photo above is Martaize's parish church. With them came two children by Jean's first wife (name unknown; but some claim Marie D'Aussy): Marie-Françoise (born about 1623, married Daniel Leblanc; our ancestors through their son Pierre; see Leblanc); and Denis (born c1625, not our ancestor as far as I can tell). Jean and Nicole also had children: Marie (born about 1633 in France; married Étienne Hébert; our ancestor through two of their daughters; see Forest and Prince); and Jean, who married Françoise Comeau and then Jeanne Henry, but does not appear to be our ancestor. Some authorities make Marie Gaudet Hébert also a daughter of the first wife. After her husband Étienne Hébert died, she married Dominique Gareau or Garaut; she died about 1700.
