Gendre

or Legendre

Marie Gendre (sometimes Legendre) was born about 1616 in Surgères, near La Rochelle. She was the daughter of Moïse Gendre (born about 1590, died before 1669) and his wife Jeanne Cosse (c1595-a1669) of that town. The eleventh-century Romanesque church is pictured above.

Marie married four husbands. The first was Jean Bourgery, whom she married in La Rochelle about 1644; they came to Québec before 1654, and had four children, born on both sides of the Atlantic. When Bourgery died in 1657 in Trois-Rivières, Marie married (1658) our ancestor Florent Leclerc (see below). He died in 1665, age about 45; she then married François Michelot (February 1667, in Trois-Rivières); he died in March 1669, and she married Jean Lamarche (who died in 1691); Marie herself died in February 1699 at Trois-Rivières.

We know of only one child from the second marriage, and none from the third and fourth. Marie's daughter Étiennette Leclerc (1663-1715) married François Bergeron. See Leclerc, Bergeron and Foucault for descendants.
