Martin

We know almost nothing of this Martin family; they may or may not have been related to our other, better-documented Martins.

In August 1670 at Québec city, Pierre Martin married Anne Poitron. The record says that he was thirty (therefore, born about 1640) and that his parents were Jean Martin and Marie Duchesnon of La Neuville-Chant-D'Oisel, which is near Rouen in Normandy. (Its chateau is pictured above.) No other record of his parents can be found. Pierre and his wife both died in August 1674 at Repentigny, two days apart - probably a cholera epidemic, not uncommon at the time. Their daughter Marguérite had turned four only two weeks before her parents died (note that she was born the same month they were married); she must have been raised by a relative). In August 1694 she married Jacques Roy dit Chouigny, a recent immigrant and the founder of our Roy family in Québec.
