Michel

We know almost nothing about this family. Jacques Michel was born about 1610 in Aunis and lived in the Île de Ré, where he must have known the Migniers and other families who later intermarried in Canada. His wife Jeanne Dupont was born around 1617, place unknown. They were married before 1637 (there is no record we know of) and we know of only one child, Jacquette, born probably in 1637; there is an incomplete baptismal record at Ste-Cathérine de la Flotte on the island. Jacques died probably in October 1668 at Québec City.

The family emigrated when Jacquette was a child. She seems to have married one Jacques Gardin but he died young, and there were no known children. Then she married our ancestor André Mignier and had several children: Michel, André, Françoise, Marie-Anne, another Marie, and Joseph. Jacquette died at Rivière Ouelle in November 1710. The family attended the province's oldest church, Nôtre-Dame de Québec (photo above) for several generations.
