Philippeau also Philippeaux |

We do not know where in France this family came from. Claude Philippeau and his wife Jeanne Énard arrived in Québec probably in or before 1667 - they had six children, and as none of the births is recorded in Canada, they presumably brought at least some of the children with them. However, the eldest appears in the 1667 census - but the second, born about 1665, does not. The eldest was our ancestor Marie-Madeleine, born probably 1664 (see below). Next was Françoise (1665?-1744, married Louis Marien and Sébastien Hervé); Louis (1666?, married Louise Dubois); Jeanne (1667?-1708, married Paul François Chalifour); Anne (1670?-1703, married Thomas Barthélemy); and Louise (1672?-1702, married Jean Mailloux). Claude and Jeanne appear to have lived out their lives in Québec city, but Madeleine lived in Charlesbourg after she married Maurice Déry in 1679. She died at Charlesbourg in December 1748. However, her husband had died in Château-Richer in 1724. They must have attended the church of St-Charles-Borroméo, but the building pictured above was not built until 1828. See Déry for descendants. |
