Rousseau

Gourgé, a village near Niort, was the home of Honoré Rousseau and his wife Marie Boillerot, who were married probably in the late 1620s. They may have also lived at nearby Oroux, where some sources claim their children were born. Their son Thomas Rousseau (the only offspring known by name, born about 1632) was in Nouvelle-France by 1667, when he married Madeleine Olivier on October 5 at Québec city. They settled in the parish of St-Pierre at Rivière-du-Sud (above), but their eleven children were born and married in a variety of place around Montmagny. Thomas died at Rivière-du-Sud in July 1716.

xi. Antoine Rousseau, born April 3, 1684 in St-Laurent; married Anne-Catherine Bouffard April 9, 1709 in St. Laurent.

After Madeleine Olivier's death, Thomas Rousseau married Françoise Charlotte Bélanger and had one further child, Guillaume.

Another Jean-Baptiste Rousseau (born in 1658 or 1664 in Sepalier, Saintonge) married Marie-Madeleine Destroismaisons dit Picard (daughter of Philippe, see Destroismaisons). They were married June 22, 1699 in Cap St-Ignace, and were the parents of four children: Charles (married Marie-Catherine Talbot and Angélique Pelletier); Geneviève (c1709-1782, married Jean Blanchet and Jean-Baptiste Boutin); Louis (c1699-1787, married Marie-Anne Huret and Marie-Angélique Dubé; and Marie-Madeleine (c1702-1774, married François Daignault dit Laprise). These two were great-great-great-great-grandparents of Marie Eva Jean Martin.

Note that our ancestor Jean-Baptiste Rousseau (c1658-January 14, 1713, Rivière du Sud) was the son of Jean Rousseau and Marie Bigot. His birthplace in the Saintonge is not very near Gourgé, the birthplace of Thomas Rousseau, but we can assume they were related, as there are several subsequent intermarriages among the descendants of the two families.

For Marguerite Rousseau's descendants see Morin. Their granddaughter Geneviève Morin married her cousin François Daignault dit Laprise, son of François and Madeleine, above.
