Pierre St-Denis (born about 1624) and his wife Vivienne Bunel (born about 1626) lived in the Norman seaport of Dieppe, home of many French-Canadian pioneers. They seem to have married in 1644 and to have had three children in Dieppe before emigrating to Canada (sometime between 1651 and 1662), and they had several more children in Château-Richer, where they settled. Pierre died on September 12, 1686 in the parish of Ste-Famille-de-l'île-d'Orléans, and Vivienne died in the Hôtel-Dieu in Québec city on November 18, 1699. The ancient hospital still stands (photo above), surrounded by modern buildings. Children: Pierre (c1646-1696); Marie-Anne (c1650, see below); Anne (c1651); Charles (born and died 1663, in Château-Richer); Angélique (born and died 1664); and Louise (born and died 1665). Marie-Anne St-Denis appears to be the only one of their children who left descendants. She married Pierre Boucher (1639-1707, son of the immigrant Marin Boucher) on April 4, 1663 at Château-Richer; she was thirteen. She died January 23, 1705 at Rivière-Ouelle. They had twelve children, including our ancestor Geneviève Boucher Dubé. |
